Due to time constraints, the cosplay competition is being capped at 40 entries this year. Priority will go to cosplayers that Pre-Register on a first-come-first-served basis. If anyone would like to register for the cosplay competition at the door, the individual running registration should have information regarding available slots.
1. All convention dress code policies apply to cosplay dress code, as well, with one exception:
a. During the cosplay contest only, males are permitted to be shirtless.
2. No roughhousing, flips, gymnastics, or anything that might put the entrant(s) or crowd in danger while within the Convention area. Mock combat will be allowed but must be approved by the cosplay coordinators. If you are unsure, please feel free to ask.
3. No liquids or substances that are harmful. Fire, flash powder, and any form of explosive will not be allowed. A self-contained light emitting device will be allowed (must have lightbulb, no flames). Talk to the cosplay coordinator to make sure it is safe.
4. Any costumes are allowed whether they are based or original.
The Walk-on Competition
The Walk-on Competition is similar to a fashion show. Contestants will walk the stage in costume, allowing the audience to see their costumes, and then exit. These costumes will not be judged for performance, only workmanship. Workmanship will be judged backstage, and is strictly voluntary. We will have a prepared medley of Anime soundtracks to play in the background during the Walk-on competition. If you feel you really need your own music from a specific series, please contact the Coordinators BEFORE the convention, and we will figure something out.
1. Everyone entering as part of the Walk-on competition should be a registered member of the convention. Badges will be checked at registration.
2. Your body may appear only ONCE in the Walk-on competition. No running back to the curtain room and changing will be permitted. You can, however, enter both the Walk-on and Skit competitions.
3. Please remember there may be children in the audience. No nudity will be allowed, and if we feel you are in danger of flashing the audience, we will ask you to modify your costume in the Curtain room. If you couldn’t wear it at a public pool, you can’t wear it on our stage. Entrants who violate this rule will be disqualified and asked to leave.
4. You will be allowed up to 1 minute on stage. (Remember you are being photographed and the better you get in character in the poses the more the costume comes to life.) Most entries average no more than 30 seconds, however.
The Skit Competition
1. Everyone entering as part of the Skit competition should be a registered member of the convention. Badges will be checked at registration.
2. Your body may appear in only ONE skit. You may also appear once in the Walk-on competition.
3. Individual skits should run no longer than 3 minutes. There will be a 5 minute limit for group skits of 2 or more people. Groups may not exceed 8 people on stage at one time. If you have a large group and think you need more time, please contact the cosplay coordinators BEFORE the day of the competition. There is a fine line between “just long enough” and “too long”! Really. Trust us on this one.
4. Please remember there may be children in the audience. Excessive swearing, nudity, or sexual content is prohibited. If you couldn’t wear it at a public pool, you can’t wear it on our stage. Entrants who violate this rule will be disqualified and asked to leave.
5. All skits must take place on the stage. There will be NO jumping/falling off the stage.
6. Do not throw anything into the audience, or at the Judges or MC. Do not leave any confetti, glitter, general debris, or liquids on our stage at the end of your skit.
7. Due to safety concerns, all fight scenes and stage combat must be pre-approved by the cosplay coordinators. We will ask to see your routine at the pre-judging, and the cosplay coordinators may ask you to change your choreography if he/she feels you are a danger to yourself, others on the stage, or the audience.
8. We can provide 4 chairs, which will be available if you would like it in your skit. Any other props must be provided by the entrant, and approved for stage use by our cosplay coordinators at the pre-judging.
9. We will be able to play CDs during skits. No custom mixing will be available. Please have the proper disc labeled with your name and costume title, as well as the track number you wish to be played. You may turn your disc in at the Cosplay Contest Pre-Judging event.
10. Respect your fellow contestants, and treat their costumes as carefully as you would your own. We are all here for the same reason- to have fun!
Crowd Favorite
Judges will be listening for audience feedback during each performance, the performer that seems to satisfy the crowd the most will be classified as the crowd favorite.
Judging will be based on:
• Originality-how original your cosplay is.
• Performance-how well you can act.
• Attitude-how well you capture your character
• Presentation-how well you show yourself off.
You will be disqualified if any of the previous cosplay/costume rules are broken.
Please be courteous to all other cosplayers and convention goers.
*REMEMBER THAT PEOPLE WILL BE TAKING PICTURES OF YOU*
*If you can, please bring reference pictures of your character.
